A further $33 Million boost to the Disability and Aged Care Sectors is planned by the Government in the 17-18 Federal Budget. This funding will focus on creating more jobs within the Disability & Aged Care industry to cater for the expected massive 2.5x growth between now and 2050 from 266,000 to 980,000 workers.

“It is designed to increase capacity in rural, regional and outer-metropolitan areas so NDIS participants and older Australians seeking aged care services have access to high quality services and support.” Minister for Social Services, Christian Porter said.

This should mean better outcomes for those using age care services, such as the new Home Care Package program, by ensuring that there are a larger number of highly qualified support workers to provide the support that is needed in the community. The funding is a strong assurance from the Australian Government that they are aware of the coming challenges of our quickly changing & ageing population, and that they are committed to ensuring that no one gets left behind.

“The package builds on the Government’s considerable investment in to assist NDIS participants, sector and workforce to transition to the scheme, with more than $110 million committed already through the Sector Development Fund,” Assistant Minister for Social Services and Disability Services, Jane Prentice, said.

This funding boost has been widely applauded by industry in the wake of much public concern over the new Home Care Package system, which many users have been finding difficult to navigate.
