I Have a Home Care Package

Now that you have your Home Care Package subsidy, you have choice and flexibility in the way it is used to provide appropriate care and support. Because each individual has different needs and wants, the way in which a Home Care Package subsidy is spent will vary greatly from person to person.

Using your home care package

At Home Care Assistance we are on hand to help guide you through the process of allocating your Home Care Package subsidy to ensure your health, home and wellbeing needs are met, enabling you to live safely and independently at home.

There really is no ‘right’ way to allocate your subsidy, and it’s essential that your care program is custom-made to help you achieve your goals.

You can use your package to access services such as

  • Cleaning, laundry, and meal preparation
  • Garden and home maintenance
  • Transport to appointments or shopping
  • Showering and dressing
  • Access to allied health services such as physiotherapy, massage and podiatry
  • Referrals to other services in the community like exercise groups, hydrotherapy and day programs

Choosing a home care provider

Some things to consider when choosing a Home Care Provider are:

  • Are they a government approved provider of Home Care packages?
  • Are carers employed by the company directly?
  • What training do home care staff receive?
  • What are the package management/administration fees?
  • Do they charge an exit fee?
  • Can you contact someone 24 hours 7 days a week if there is a problem or concern with care?

Management/Administration fees

Part of your subsidy will go towards a management fee. Home Care Assistance charges a very low package management fee which means you use the majority of your subsidy for direct care needs. To learn more, contact your local team by clicking here.

Is there a time limit?

In receiving your Home Care Package, you have been allocated a referral code. You have 56 days to choose a Home Care Provider using that referral code.
